It
has long been my personal dream to be a part of the
integration of Western medical and complementary
holistic traditions. With that in mind and while
sitting in meditation one day, in came the answer to
that dream that spawned the inception of the “Haven for
Healing Foundation, Inc.”, part of the name stemming
from my involvement with the founders of the Haven for
Healing Collaborative in Falmouth, MA. The label 'felt
right' to Lee-Ann Trigler and myself, and with the
gracious permission of the Collaborative, we had an
official name!
Lee-Ann, the owner of the Hanson Holistic Center in
Hanson, MA, and with whom I enjoy a personal and
professional relationship, entertains a vision similar
to mine. We both wish to create a safe space in which we
can provide a complementary healing modality, Reiki, to
those who are ill or health challenged, and to educate
them as to other integrative healing methods that might
serve them as well.
People who are suffering with chronic pain or illness
are searching for a respite from their dilemma. These
people may 'have tried everything' without success and
cannot seem to get beyond the incessant 24/7 pain and/or
stress syndrome. They are usually willing to try
alternatives to traditional therapies and are quite open
to any and all possibilities.
Understanding this, we opened our first Haven for
Healing Reiki clinic on February 2, 2001. Five Reiki
Practitioners treated 35 clients in a 4 hour time slot.
Maladies ranged from endometriosis, to interstitial
cystitis, to post thyroid surgery, to a person
recovering from ovarian cancer, and the flu. Feedback
was generally positive. Before leaving the clinic, the
recipients reported a sense of relaxation and comfort in
otherwise painful areas and situations. One person
reported the next day that she still felt 'great and
energized', fairly uncommon for her because she suffers
from chronic fatigue.
Spurred on by this success, and with much determination
& help from friends, the Haven officially moved into
non-profit status in 2001. Since then we have opened our
clinic hours to 4 evenings a week, and still maintain
the free Reiki clinic the first Friday of each month,
which is open to the public as a venue for receiving,
learning & understanding the benefits of Reiki.
In this year of 2008, we are holding our 8th
annual “Feed Your Soul ~ Take Time for Yourself” Women’s
Retreat. The day’s program is organized to offer a
variety of alternative-oriented mini workshops in an
effort to educate those who are interested, but who may
be a bit hesitant to make an appointment in the realm of
the unknown.
It is Lee-Ann’s and my hope that one day the Haven will
gain National status so that we may educate and make
available to the general public the benefits of
complementary wellness services that not only do we
offer, but that are available all over this country and
elsewhere.
