Reiki
"The Touch That Heals" |
 |
|
The
word Reiki (ray-key) is a generic Japanese term that refers to any type of
healing that utilizes
universal life force energy, the energy in our bodies and
all living things that defines life itself.
When
we are in a state of complete health, the flow of this energy is smooth
and
balanced. Unfortunately we often lose this state of equilibrium. Reiki produces
a deep state of relaxation, which strengthens the body's natural healing
tendencies and systems and relieves anxiety, stress and pain. It works with the
autonomic nervous system to lower blood pressure and heart rate and increases
the abilities of the immune system to fight bacterial and viral infections.
Endorphins are released and a state of general well-being is affected. The flow
of Reiki life force energy in the body along with this response intensifies
healing on all levels.

|
Every
cell in our body vibrates with life force energy. By increasing the amount of
this energy the body holds during a Reiki treatment, the low vibrational
energies of illness and diseas e are released, allowing the life force energy to
flow in a natural way so that healing can occur. Reiki energy is always
beneficial, never harming in any way. The more we are able to understand that
our bodies are fields of energy, the easier it is to realize the mind/body
connection in healing. Reiki tends to decrease the amount of time needed for
healing curable illness. It also helps to decrease the severity of pain
experienced with incurable disease, directly improving the quality of life.

"Before
beginning Reiki I was in such an emotional abyss I could barely function. After
two sessions my inner turmoil was completely gone; as though it had happened to
someone else and I was just a bystander who witnessed it." Sally

"Shakespeare's
intuitive Hamlet tells his pragmatic friend, Horatio that "there's more in
heaven and earth dreamed of in (Horatio's) philosophy." For me, Reiki has
been the "more" that has joined my philosophy of heaven and earth,
showing me what Hamlet knew of the possibilities of self-defined goals."

Some
unique features of Reiki: |
|
Reiki is a gentle,
non-invasive hands-on technique rendered
with love and compassion.
|
Reiki can be used on oneself and others,
plants, animals and any living thing. |
Reiki treats the whole body; therefore, it
is wholistic in approach. It works on
all body levels; physical, mental,
emotional, and spiritual.
|
|
Reiki penetrates all barriers; clothes,
bandages, and even casts. |
Reiki can be used in conjunction with
standard medical procedures and religious
beliefs without conflict.
|
Reiki accelerates all types of healing and
may be used at any time
with
no contraindications. |
|
Reiki expands awareness and accelerates
personal and spiritual growth. |
Reiki practitioners are never depleted by a
Reiki session; instead they also receive an
energy boost from participation in the Reiki
process. |
Reiki is easy to learn and
simple to use; it can even be taught to
children. |

Holistic Therapies and Traditional Medicine |

"4
out of 10 Americans used alternative medicine therapies in 1997; total visits to
alternative medicine practitioners increased by almost 50 percent from 1990 and
exceeded the visits to all U.S. primary care physicians. Americans paid an
estimated $21.2 billion for services provided by alternative medicine
practitioners, according to an article in the November 11 (1998) issue of 'The
Journal of The American Medical Association' (JAMA)…… The therapies that saw
the largest increase in usage included herbal medicine, massage, megavitamins,
self-help groups, folk remedies, energy healing and
homeopathy."1. "The proliferation of healers practicing alternative
forms of therapy, and the clients supporting their work, suggest that this trend
continues to escalate."2.
